We collect almost nothing
SnowVerdict sets no cookies at all, runs no analytics, shows no adverts and has no sign-up, no account and no contact form. Nothing on any page is loaded from another company's server, so nobody else gets to set a cookie here either. That is why you have never seen a consent banner, and why there is nothing for one to ask you about. This page says what does happen.
Who is asking
The controller is SIA "Green Wire Media", Rūpniecības iela 8A, Cēsis, LV-4101, Latvia. Company and register details are on the imprint page. Anything on this page, including a request to delete what we hold, goes to [email protected].
What we put on your device
Nothing. No cookies, no localStorage, no sessionStorage, no fingerprinting. The site is a stack of static files, so there is no session to keep and nothing to remember between visits. Open the storage panel in your browser on any page here and it is empty.
Light and dark follow the setting your browser already reports. The sky at the top of every page picks its daylight or dusk palette from the current clock time in the Alps, worked out fresh in your browser on each load. Neither choice is stored, and neither is sent to us.
The instant answer box
The search box on the homepage runs entirely in your browser. On first focus it downloads one file of resort answers from snowverdict.com and matches your words against it locally. What you type is never transmitted, never logged and never reaches us. Close the tab and it is gone.
What loads from somebody else
Nothing does. Every request a page here makes goes to one of two hostnames, and both of them are ours:
- snowverdict.com
- The pages, the stylesheet, the resort photographs and the one search file. Cloudflare Pages serves all of it.
- workers.dev
- Our own small Cloudflare Worker. A resort page asks it for the live webcam tiles, and it fetches each picture from Windy itself and passes it on.
No maps, no video players, no embedded frames, no tag manager, no social buttons, no fonts from a font service. The typefaces are whatever your own device already has. Ordinary links out to resorts, avalanche services and our transfer service are only links: nothing loads from them until you choose to go there, and then you are on their site under their rules.
The photographs and the webcams
The resort photographs are Wikimedia Commons pictures, taken by the people credited
underneath each one. We hold copies of them on our own server and serve them from there, so
your browser never talks to Wikimedia to see them. It used to. Until this page was
rewritten, each photograph was loaded straight from Wikimedia's image host, which set a
year-long WMF-Uniq cookie on every visitor without anybody being asked. That
is gone, and the credit beneath each photograph still names the photographer, names the
licence, links the licence terms and links the file on Commons, which is all the licence
ever asked of us.
The live webcam tiles come from Windy.com, and they cannot be copied in advance because the point of them is that they are current. So our own Worker fetches each picture from Windy and hands it to you. Windy sees our server asking, not you, and your browser never contacts them. If you tap a tile you go to windy.com deliberately, and from that moment their privacy policy applies rather than ours.
What the host logs
The site runs on Cloudflare Pages, and the webcam proxy on Cloudflare Workers. Like any web host, Cloudflare records a request log when your browser asks for a page: IP address, time, the page requested and the browser type. Cloudflare does this on our behalf, as our processor, to deliver the site and keep it standing. We never join those logs to anything else and could not identify you from them. Cloudflare, Inc. is a United States company; where data reaches the United States, the transfer rests on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. Cloudflare keeps the logs for a short period under its own policy, and we do not take a copy.
If you write to us
Corrections are the best mail we get, and they are also the only personal data we ever hold on purpose. We use your address and your message to reply and to fix the record, and for nothing else. No newsletter, no list, no sharing. Correction mail is kept for up to 24 months and then deleted. Your name is never published next to a correction unless you ask for it.
Legal basis
For the host's request logs and for answering your email, the basis is our legitimate interests under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR: serving the site, keeping it secure, and keeping the numbers right. There is no profiling, no automated decision-making about you, and no advertising purpose anywhere in it.
Your rights
You may ask us for access to what we hold about you, for its correction or deletion, for a limit on its use or for a copy of it, and you may object to anything we do on the basis of legitimate interest. Write to [email protected] and we will deal with it. You may also complain to the Latvian supervisory authority, the Data State Inspectorate (Datu valsts inspekcija), or to the authority where you live.
If this ever stops being true, because the site gains a feature that needs more, this page changes in the same build as the feature.
